Triumph Stag
The Stag is a true Grand Tourer, conceived by Triumph as a luxury four seat convertible to rival the likes of the Mercedes SL. It's refined, torquey 3 litre bespoke V8 engine, smooth riding chassis and comfortable, well appointed interior, all wrapped up in one of Michelotti’s finest creations, mean that a well sorted Stag such as ours provides a relaxed and stylish drive equally suited to a day trip to a local beauty spot for a picnic or to more ambitious long distance touring.
Our 1976 Stag MkII, finished in Delft Blue with a tan interior and wood dash, has the more involving manual gearbox with overdrive (three-quarters of Stags were automatics), a choice of folding hood or hard top, a radio/cassette player, electric windows, power steering and seatbelts front and rear. Few sounds will bring a smile to the face of a car enthusiast as readily as the burble of the original V8 when you’ve just started it (so much better than examples that have been converted to Rover V8s), and the smile will still be there after a full day’s touring as you’ll feel as relaxed and refreshed as you were at the start.
